So it's hard to say what their schedules dictate-but we'd expect Invincible to debut around the same time next year.

And while a bunch of the bigger-name cast members ( Seth Rogen, Mahershala Ali) were only really recurring roles in Season 1, Yeun, Simmons, and Sandra Oh (who voices Debbie) are also super busy performers as well. That being said, the cast (we'll touch more on that below) is, uh, super famous. It seems like (knock on wood!) pandemic-related delays are a thing of the past, so it's likely that Season 2 will come out around the same time next year: late winter/early spring 2022. There are plenty of storylines left for Invincible to pursue in the future Season 1, really, is just the beginning. DA Sinclair (Ezra Miller) is building more Reanimen, this time to be used by Cecil and company.

Titan (Mahershala Ali) is going full Kingpin after displacing Machine Head. The parasitic, face-hugging aliens from Mars are fully taking over that spacecraft. There's no taking back all the damage he's done, but surely he will want to once again face him and, uh, I guess discuss everything that went down.Ī montage at the end of the season also gave us a couple hints of what could be to come in Season 2, particularly picking up threads that we've seen throughout the season. Still, just like Steve at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Mark is eager to know what happened to his father.

At this point, Nolan flew away, leaving Mark in bad shape, but alive.Ĭecil Stedman- Invincible's version of Nick Fury-provided the Grayson family cover, saying publicly that Nolan died in a gas explosion, and making sure they'd be financially solvent in his absence. After causing all sorts of damage, killing countless people, and bringing Mark to within moments of losing his life, Nolan had a memory of Mark playing baseball, and one of the moments where he clearly felt as close to human as he ever did. 2, Mark rebuffed offers to join his world-conquering father, instead wanting to protect Earth, and go down with the ship if it meant doing so. Yet in a beat that felt sort of like Captain America: The Winter Soldier meets Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. And, as Invincible creator shared in a video posted to his Twitter account with star (and 2021 Academy Award nominee) Steven Yeun, the show has also been picked up for a Season 3 as well in the video, Kirkman even says he hopes they get to make "a hundred more seasons." Which is all to say: there's a lot of source material for future Invincible seasons. That comic eventually ran all the way until Kirkman wrapped his run up in 2018.

Kirkman's Invincible character began his comic run way back in 2002 (as a cameo in a Savage Dragon comic) before eventually starting his own solo series in 2003. The success of Invincible likely comes as no surprise to comic book fans, who have made Robert Kirkman's Image Comics superhero one of the most successful ever to not be affiliated with Marvel or DC. Which is why its style-subversive to both genres, but never approaching with disdain or any level of spoofing-is so much fun to watch like the rest of us watching, it's clear that the people who make this series are fans of these genres, and just want to contribute something new to that same space.

And it sure knows there are a lot of superhero stories out there.Ĭlick here to join MH MVP and get the best in exclusive features and workout tips Men's Health But Invincible knows there are a lot of coming of age stories, and stories set around high schoolers just trying to be normal. It's wholly self-aware of where it stands in the world, telling the coming-of-age story of 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) as he just learns of his place in the world as a superhero, now calling himself Invincible, and his father, the world's greatest hero, Nolan Grayson, also known as Omni-Man. Invinci ble's first season did a great job setting up multiple threads throughout the course of its eight episodes that allowed the season to not only come to a satisfying ending, but at the same time set up a number of storylines that can-and likely will-be followed in future seasons.Īnd that's part of what makes Invincible so much fun to watch. And now that the show's dramatic (and also, at times, hilarious) first season has come to a conclusion that leaves its viewers on numerous cliffs, it's fair to start thinking about Season 2.

Amazon Prime's superhero series Invincible may be animation, but it comes with as much bloody, edge-of-your-seat action, as many twists, and as utterly star-studded a cast as any live action superhero series or movie out there.
